This was a fun read about a boy who overcomes his fear of jumping off the high dive.
Jabari wants to try the high dive but it’s so....high!! Will he find his brave? Loved this story about climbing up and letting go.
Jabari is afraid of jumping off the high dive. Thankfully his dad is there to tell him that fear is okay, but it can't be allowed to control you. What is Jabari to do?
I loved this book. It carries a great message and has a wonderfully whimsical, yet bold, illustration style. After checking this book out from the library and finding that our family loved it, I bought a copy to add to my son's collection.
And it really can't be overstated that books featuring non-white children are not as common as they should be, particularly books that just have them being normal kids. This is another reason why we enjoyed Jabari Jumps so much, because it gives voice to a side of life many children's books neglect.

From the title page illustrations to the final page, Gaia Cornwall will make you fall in love with and root for Jabari. In this cool summer story about a young boy's first jump from the diving board, we see a universal dilemma - fear of the unknown. Jabari behaves like so many kids when faced with something new and scary. With a little time, encouragement from Dad, and bravery, Jabari jumps.
A super cute book about overcoming your fears. A great summer story about being nervous on the diving board. The text is a little too long for storytime but would be great for elementary students.
An adorable picture book about facing a fear. Very cute, simple premise, easy to incorporate physical activities for storytime.
