adventurous emotional hopeful reflective medium-paced

This simple story is a great study in courage that celebrates doing something new, even when it scares you. I used this with 2nd graders to talk about character & character traits, and all of my students connected in personal ways with Jabari’s story.

Perfectly captures that moment when you are faced with fear, and what it feels like to blaze through it.

Perfect for a summer or swimming storytime

Jabari just passed his swimming test and is ready for the high dive. He thinks it looks easy until he gets to the bottom of the ladder. Will he power through?

Jabari jumps off the high diving board for the first time

I love the relatability of this book. It expresses Jabari's fear in jumping off the diving board. It is relatable and also represents diversity in story and illustration. His bravery and his father support it what made me want to review this book. Great for young to middle readers.

Very beautiful illustrations and story. About self-confidence, encouragement, and the fear that comes with wanting to accomplish something.

Jabari is going to jump off the diving board for the first time today. It is a bit scary but with encouragement from his dad he succeeds. Lovely! I loved the message and the illustrations and the story.
