I have always loved fairytales and this was a good retelling of beauty and the beast...had fun reading it..even though i knew there is a happily ever after..i loved every minute of it..with all its twists and details..can read it again and again with out getting bored
Not a bad book and the movie adaptation was really good. There are a few scenes in the book not included in the movie that I think were really important in the story, like the sledding scene. I’d say this is best described as a young adult forbidden romance.
I read this book 3 years ago and this week I decided to re-read it because I recently rewatched the Disney classic movie Beauty and the Beast. I was expecting that re-reading it will give me a whole new view on the book and I was right. As I was reading I focused more on the main character's development, Kyle (Adrian), on the progress he had to make in order to break the curse.
!!!!!SPOILERS AHEAD !!!!!!
What I liked:
- The second read helped me notice how Adrian learned how to love. He started with flowers. Grew roses and took care of them. They became his obsession. Only then he moved to Lindy. His previous tries ( kissing Sloana, going to that Halloween party) to break the spell didn't work as he intended. He had to start with something little, like flowers, so he could realize that love takes commitment.
- I love how the author was inspired by some of the Disney movie scenes, like the waltz in the ballroom (here it was on the 5th floor of the house), "Something There" ( this song was playing in my head while they were making the snowman)
- The climax was sooo intense. How Adrian didn't even bother to hide his beastly face anymore and went to find Lindy, how both of them thought about the Jane Eyre book and called each other's names, and how they confessed their love for each other
- When Adrian realized that he wasn't happy even before he was turned into a beast
- Kendra was along Adrian throughout his journey and guided him
- Lindy and Adrian's common interest: books
- Lindy's crush on Kyle ( that was unexpected )
- The online chat at the end of the chapters gave the book an interesting dynamic and kept the reader updated with each cursed human's progress in breaking the curse. It was also funny ( the beast trying to talk Grizzly into introducing his two girlfriends to him and that frog's typos were hilarious)
Overall, I think this book is worth reading, perfect for Beauty and the Beast fans! I couldn't let it down but also didn't want to finish it because of the slow burn and because it brought back the charm of the original story. Also, it got me out of a reading slump
Beauty lies in the heart not on the surface

I am such a nerd for fairy tales. I think it mostly comes from curling up a reading our copy of the the complete Grimm's fairytales. Honestly, I love even more when I can find the original, dark, twisted versions. It is some sort of illicit thrill for me. I adore it when a good author can put a good spin on an old tale. Alex Flinn does that by writing this modern version of Beauty and the Beast from the view point of the Beast. A good and quick read.
I'm a sucker for Beauty and the Beast retellings anyway, but this is one of my favorites (bested only by "Till we have faces" if a retelling of Cupid and Psyche will qualify). Flinn's male heros aren't the most believable- I asked a male and he agreed that Adrian's speech does not sound like it comes from a guy, even an isolated one. But he's so deliciously nasty. And so lovable in his redemption. The novel stays so remarkably close to the original story, refreshed by the modern setting. The Beast finds a chat room for others that have undergone "transformations." Beauty is afraid her captor is an aging pervert. And they bond over the Princess Bride!!!! <3<3<3<3<3
Loved it! Was a newer version of Beauty and the Beast. I could connect more with it :)
Such fun
Beastly is a great retelling of one of my favorite fairy tales. Sweet, sad, and funny with a happily ever after.

The book was okay. Easy read. I didn't think too much while reading it, I just got through with it, and didn't leave any thoughts on it afterwards either.
