Unlike a seemingly vocal minority of readers, I did not find the novel preferable to the film, but this does serve as an unusually ambitious film novelization that strives to mirror the film’s excellence in visual storytelling through a similarly dedicated emphasis on a kind of melodramatic philosophical prose. Many a soliloquy on darkness and light and the like. It works more than it doesn’t but it’s not imperfect.
