Neither here nor there...
Let me first talk about the things I liked.
I read this book via audio and the narration was amazing! This is a perfect example of how a book can be so much better if it is narrated. If I was reading it there is a possibility that I would have DNFed it at around 40%, but the narration kept me going.
Then the writing... I liked it. There were some solid parts of the story that had their punchlines, the prose was nicely used and really contributed to keeping the interest in the story.

Now what was the reason for me wanting to DNF it... well, I just can't get over
the insta love moments and the accidental pregnancy and to make that even harder to read there is a miscommunication trope above all that. Things were developing so fast... He was in love with her at first sight, he was ready to kill for her...wait a minute boy, for who are you ready to kill, get to know her first, what if she is a shitty person and she played you. For a killer, he was pretty trustworthy towards her. The pregnancy and the miscommunications were just...why, WHY?!
But as I already said the first two things were good enough to keep me going and I didn't regret it, the last 20 % of the book was good and we finally got an emotional depth of the characters, even for a brief part.
Now, would I say that it was a bad story, not really, but it wasn't great either. So the solid 3-star is what summed it up.

I forgot how much I love the King Series these two books are prequels to the main King Series and follow the story of Abby and Jake who are each others light and darkness. This series is Dark and deals with alot of dark themes so I strongly suggest looking up the TW before you start to read, I love how t.m.frazier writes her characters and make the reader really feel there ups and downs. I cannot wait to get started on the next book.

Highschool stuff. The characters are all children. Huge emphasis on childhood trauma that seems profound to children, but not something I care to read about. It feels like the author is trying to play trauma bingo and catch them all. Strong "not like other kids, I have ~issues~" vibes. Deep internalized misogyny. The author seems to be a misogynist, forgiving both the girls and men for being terrible to girls and women. It also uses "bad habits" such as smoking marijuana as a personality, as if most teenagers don't already do that.
