Sad to say but this is the first Nicholas Sparks book I didn't like much. It is cliche, I could guess everything that was going to happen and I didn't care for Denise or Taylor.
She should have just said goodbye when he started to act like a dick, and his reasoning was not great.
I found myself rolling my eyes a lot, and the emotional parts barely affected me.
I wanted to put it down at 50% and I feel like I wasted my time finishing it. If this was the first book I read, I probably wouldn't read another. Worse than The Choice.

EN: After three highly philosophical stops, I chose to rest on a romantic venue – in "The Rescue" (2000), by Nicholas Sparks.
Denise moves to a North Carolina town with her 5-year-old Kyle, who's diagnosed with an unclear developmental disorder. One night, on the road, this young mom and son are caught in a storm and suffer a tremendous accident – culminating in Kyle's momentary disappearence. Taylor – a gentle, but secluded firefighter –, is one of those called to the rescue – the only person that'll strike Kyle's attention and, with it, Denise's heart.
This book had the vibe I was looking for at the time – a sweet, hometown-centered, straightforward (with a twist) romance. Its characters and relationships' development filled my measures – gently guiding me through its dynamics and psychological conundrums. I'd say this story is one of those that'd suit someone who's looking for an intellectual break, but still open for an emotional ride.

This is okay. The kind of book where you immediately know the end. Took a little long to set up “the problem” for me.
Ugh, just ugh.
Guy with commitment issues and girl who stays with someone when she knows is a flop. Just very anti-climactic for me. After they found the son, it was downhill from there. And of course the author just had to kill the guy with 4 young kids.

I really loved this story. Single hard working mom finds love. Some suspense and twists in the story. Was an easy read.
Book was great right from the start. The last 100 pages are a bit of a tear jerker. I enjoyed his story and the characters. He always writes so beautifully.

If you're looking to mindlessly crush through a rom com, you know exactly what you're getting with this book. I found it entertaining to really reflect on how my conceptions of gender norms and relationships were influenced by this late 90's/early 00's rigid and
