I don't think I'll get use to, or like, the way Nicholas Sparks writes his POVs. I hate how it constantly switches back and forth, sometimes right in the middle of the chapter. And the predictability is astonishing. But, predictable or not... It was still a really good book. Out of all the books I've read of Nicholas Sparks (and if I'm being honest it hasn't been many haha) this one has been my favorite. The characters were likable and complex without being a pain in the butt. The story was so sweet.

I know these are written for soccer moms and hopeless romantics, but I can't help myself. It's good beach reading. Sparks weaves an enjoyable love story about how the losses in life can hold us back when we don't heal. The side story of the unshakable, unconditional love that parents can have for their children also pulls on the heart strings.

Quotes from the book:
-Loving someone and having them love you back is the most precious thing in the world.
-Youth offers the promise of happiness, but life offers the realities of grief.
-She hadn’t chosen this life, it was the only life offered to her.

Background:
This book was inspired by Sparks second son Ryan, when Miles (Sparks first son) got taken to get his tonsils removed the doctors visit turned into a little more than just Miles. The doctor noticed Ryan wouldn’t response to any of the friendly questions he was asking, Sparks and his wife let the doctor know he wasnt much of a talker. That caused for Sparks, his wife and little Ryan to go through evaluations for about a year trying to figure out what was wrong with him. While Sparks wife was on vacation Sparks sat down with Ryan daily and worked with him for hours at a time. When Sparks wife called to check up on them she got an unexpected surprise little Ryan said to her “i love you mommy”

Review:
This has got to be one of my favorite Sparks books!!!! Taylor and Denise are both very well developed characters, both with struggles of their own. Denise a single mom of a 4 year old with learning disabilities and then there’s Taylor a hunk of a man!!! okay well he has struggles too his whole adulthood he has been struggling with falling in love, he’s used to rescuing women from whatever demons they encounter but the minute he “fixes” them he seems to not find a reason to stay. I think the main reason i enjoyed this book so much was because the struggle Denise is facing is a very real problem that people live with everyday, Sparks was one of those persons and i believe having himself experience all of this is what gives him the ability to produce such a profound, delicate and sensitive piece of work. I loved every chapter of this book and constantly found myself staying up way past my normal bedtime. A lot of reviews that I read mentioned how sappy, and cliche the book was, but honestly how can you pick up a Nicholas Sparks and NOT expect sappy and cliche. If i was to read a Sparks book that doesn’t include some kind of cliches i’d be highly disappointed and angry!!! Overall i highly highly HIGHLY recommend this book, to all my friends who are moms believe me when i say this book will have you in tears from chapter one until the very end.

This is the last book I'm reading by Nicholas Sparks, ever. I promise. It's ridiculous how his stories are always the same: heroic man falls in love with woman, everything goes okay, but then they fight for whatever reason; that's when something tragic happens magically for them to fall in love all over again, generally a death. Then everything turns out as happy as it can be, also tipically happy ever after (with some exceptions) I read this book because I had nothing else to read at my summer house and I vow never to read a Nicholas Sparks book ever again.

i can’t explain how much i DESPISED this book. taylor was so unlikable & the way that he suddenly became a good partner at the end (????) really bothered me. he treated denise & her son horribly for most of the book, & i thought he was a bitch. would not recommend

Fantastic read. Devoured it in 2 evenings. Typical Nicholas Sparks' romance. Loved it!
