The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks is the touching story of a single mom devoted to her special needs preschooler, determined to help him adapt to the world, though he seems unable to communicate. When she meets a kind man who serves as a volunteer fireman, who actually seems to care not just for her, but also her complicated young son, her world seems to open up for the better, but is it too good to be true? Relationships get complicated and emotions run high, and as the characters shed tears of both joy and despair, so are the readers brought to tears as well. A beautiful story.
Oh, Nicholas Sparks. You make real romance for real people seem so possible. And I love and hate you for that. Because it seems so perfect for them and I want what you create so badly that I end up being completely jealous of the fictional characters. Is that normal? Maybe. Gah.
Anyway, this followed the typical Sparks model: two imperfect people meet, they fall in love, something happens to pull them away from each other, they end up together. And I'm not mad about it. It was the perfect cute, quick, light read that I was looking for while I way laying on a beach, drinking rum, soaking up the sun.
The characters were perfectly flawed so they were realistic and relatable and incredibly lovable. Thank you, Nicholas Sparks, for what you do--never stop!

I feel like as far as Nicholas Sparks novel's go, this one is very under-appreciated. The Rescue is one of my favorite Sparks novels to date, & I don't see why this doesn't get more recognition. A beautiful story line with the (spoiler alert) special plus that this novel doesn't get as sad at the end as Sparks' other ones usually do.
Tinha este livro na estante há uns anos, e nunca peguei nele a medo de não gostar, sendo que romance adulto não é bem o meu género de eleição.
This one was just ok. It was way too predictable and a little bit boring.
A typical Sparks novel, not one of his best. It's interesting and worth the read. It's the typical formula.
I think it’s time to admit that Sparks is not for me. I just don’t enjoy maudlin romances intended to make the reader cry. I also didn’t like Taylor at all. He was quite immature for a guy in his mid 30s and why didn’t his mother send him to counseling? Mitch’s death served no purpose other than to make Taylor realize he needed to change. Denise was okay - I had fairly average feelings toward her. This was my second Sparks book and it will most likely be my last one.
