A good read that grabbed me from page one. Loved the characters in this one! Have to give it four stars because it is the typical Sparks formula. Definitely worth the read!
This book started off so exciting! Then that situation resolved itself in 50 pages and it turned into a corny romance novel including the phrase “a roll in the hay” when referring to sex. I couldn’t even finish it.
so far i read Nicholas Sparks' Dear John, The Last Song, and just finished The Rescue last week. I have to say The Rescue is my Sparks' favorite so far. I hope it can turn out be a movie like other Sparks' books too.
Yep, I read a Nicholas Sparks book. Not my usual style, I admit, although I read quite a few of his books back in the day! I was at my grandparents house and my grandma had given me a box of books she had read and didn't want anymore, so when they left me at their house to go to a dinner, this was the one I grabbed. I ended up reading it all that evening and was actually a little surprised that it didn't totally follow the cliche plot I had expected. It definitely wasn't a literary masterpiece, but as far as easy romantic fiction goes, it was pretty good. If you need a super light love story to read on a rainy evening, grab something by Nicholas Sparks and just relax.
Book 4 of Spark-a-Thon.
It's been so long since I read this book that I had forgotten pretty much everything about it, so I'm absolutely ugly crying at 11:00am on a Sunday.
We all know that romance isn't the main attraction for me in books, so I was far more invested in everything else that was going on. Three things I thought that were done really well:
1. Taylor's relationship with Kyle. I love that kid. He's adorable, and I'm a sucker for storylines like that.
2. The death of Mitch. The reveal of that was shocking and I had absolutely forgotten that happened.
3. The reveal of what happened to Taylor's father. I was sobbing the entire time he told Denise the story.
I'm surprised this one hasn't been made into a movie yet (has it?). It would probably work really well on the Hallmark channel...

3.5 stars from me. The character development was excellent. It's been a lot of years since I've read Sparks but this seemed to fit his usual pattern. The major obstacle in this one just didn't seem like a big deal.
I rounded down rather than up because I really didn't like how Kyle's disability was portrayed. I get that this book is 20 years old and attitudes have changed but

It did drag on a little towards the middle of the book. But all paid off in the end. Such a wonderful piece of literature. Sparks never lets me down!
I cried so hard on the last 100 pages I could barely see the words.
While the whole book draws you in and captures your heart, the last third or so of the book is quite the emotional roller coaster. I cried equal parts happy and sad tears.
There's something relatable in each of the characters. Each character learns about the various human relationships in their lives (friendship, romantic interests, relationships with parents and children, acquaintances, lovers, etc).
I expected a frilly romance, I didn't expect it to grapple with concepts like guilt and grief, especially so beautifully.
Definitely would recommend.

I liked this book. A lot of it is about dealing with death and being alone though. So not my favorite. But still good.
