This writer blew me away. So much food for thought. So much talent to admire.

Finally picked up DFW thinking it might be a small consolation to confirm that he is in fact overrated and my unrequited crush does in fact have a pretentious lit-bro taste in authors. Unfortunately I tore through this. Saw myself in it, dare I say. I played myself!

The skill of the author is undeniable but, with the exception of a couple stories within the collection, I just didn't enjoy reading this book at all.

I found the more traditional stories in this collection largely forgettable. However, the series of 'interviews' were outstanding. Each monologue captured each man's unique, monstrous attitudes towards women. Some were out and out pigs, some couched their selfishness in new age wokeness, some masked rage and distaste through superiority and condescension. This was helped by the fact that I listened to the audio version of the book and the actors who read the interviews did a top notch job. I actually found some hard to listen to because they felt so realistic. DFW's writing and insight for the interviews is amazing.

I found myself skimming a lot. Generally I enjoy Wallace, but I hear and see enough hideous people in life that I didn't care to read about some of these.

Read some excerpts, if I had a therapist he would hear about this, dnf obviously: do you want me to go insane... Two stars because at least it provoked something in me, Pynchon could never
