DID NOT FINISH

DNF. I’m not a cat person, but hoping to be one because of the reviews of this book as “heart-warming”. But I couldn’t even finished it, it is really boring. My first 1-star book

What started as a lighthearted cosy read had me bawling my eyes out by the end. It's a slow story and once I understood the idea (the travelling cat and whatnot), I was afraid it would get a bit boring or repetitive, and the chapters are quite long as well. But as soon as
Satoru's situation became clear
, it gave the story more depth. This fictional road trip through Japan was full of poetry and discoveries!
I LOVED the story from the cat's POV, much more than when it was an impersonal narrator. The one issue I had was about Satoru being this perfect, selfless, understanding human being, even as a child. I always prefer when characters are flawed, much more realistic imo.
Also, I listened to the audiobook and George Blagden did a phenomenal job! So much so that I immediately knew which character was speaking!

Overall, a great book for cat lovers and people who need a cosy read with emotional twists!

While the style of writing comes across as simple and even childlike, this is a book with surprising depth. The voice is predominantly that of the cat, which I absolutely love. My only critique was that the main character seemed too perfect. But the story was not really about that and was focused on these positive, intuitive attributes relevant to the narrative.

I seldom cry and this book got the tears flowing! Despite that, it is a truly heartwarming story. No spoilers from me just a highly recommended, beautiful story. Yes it's for cat lovers but it's about human relationships.
