Feels too early to give a high rating and it's such a short novel. Intrigued enough to read the next one. Quite graphic on the violence in the name of justice, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Fair bit of spice. Looking forward to seeing more substance in the relationship than just sex (not that I mind it, but only if it digs deeper than the surface 'because they're hot') and getting into the complexities of the situation they're in.

"The Risk" by S.T. Abby is a heart-pounding thriller that not only explores the depths of darkness within a serial killer's mind but also delves into the unlikely bond that forms between Lana and Agent Bennett. As Lana's chilling acts of violence escalate, Agent Bennett finds himself drawn to her in a way he never anticipated. Despite the danger and moral complexities, a palpable connection develops between them, blurring the lines between predator and prey. S.T. Abby skillfully navigates the delicate balance between romance and suspense, crafting a story that is as intense as it is emotionally gripping. As Lana and Agent Bennett navigate their forbidden attraction, readers are taken on a thrilling ride filled with twists and turns that will keep them guessing until the very end. "The Risk" is a captivating and electrifying read that explores the depths of love and obsession amidst the darkness of human nature.

This was a decent start to the series. It was fun, but nothing mind-boggling to me. Hopefully, that will change once we get more into the story. Quite frankly with the way people talk about it, I thought it was going to be darker than it was. Maybe that will come within the next book(s). Not going to lie, I'm much more interested in Lana's past, her sprees, and Logan's cases than the romance. My qualm with this book is that it's not very descriptive when it comes to settings and side characters. And Lana's past is given to us very ambiguously. Not a big fan of the flashbacks, but it's whatever I guess. Hope we learn more in the future books. Also, this is a side note, but I'm reading this book while listening to it and I don't recommend the audio. I've never said this about any of the audiobooks I've listened to, but I don't think the voice actors match the story at all so just something to note if you're thinking of listening to the book.

The Albert Einstein quotes have the same impact as the dear Ellen notes in it ends with us to me. Live, Laught, love Lana ( she has no wrong)

this book was a quick enjoyable read. i loved that the mcs were a female serial killer and a male fbi profiler. the concept is great, it ended where i want to pick up the second book immediately and there are other mysteries i want answers to. the writing was ok, but easy to read.

My biggest gripe with these books is that they aren’t one big book. The formatting throws me off and forces me to remove myself from the story to download the next book. I wonder if I would give it a solid 5 if I was reading the singular paperback!

Story-wise, it’s phenomenal. I’m pleasantly surprised with how quickly I became invested in the characters and the story. I *needed* to know what happened.

The FMC is a badASS. I find myself routing for her even though her actions are a little morally twisted. Which, I know you’re supposed to. Abby does a great job of giving you just enough to keep wanting more. I feel like each book is just gunna keep peeling back layers as you follow Logan and Lana as they become romantically involved while playing cat and mouse in a completely different way.

I’ve already recommended this book/series to people and I’m not even sure how it ends yet.

As always, make sure you check your trigger warnings!

Happy reading 😌📚😮‍💨
