This book was all over the place and felt lack luster in many ways while I like the ideas of these books I feel like the characters are not strong enough to hold up the series this book seemed to be very scattered.
Alexia, Lady Maccon, is pregnant, and London is scandalized, since as far as science is aware, a werewolf is incapable of fathering a child. Furious at the fact that Lord Maccon doubts her fidelity and suddenly finding herself a target for assassination due to her inexplicable condition, Alexia travels to Italy, looking for vindication and answers from the Templars, who have conducted exhaustive studies into both the supernatural and the preternatural. Has she jumped from the frying pan into the fire, however? The Parasol Protectorate series continues with all the wit and panache of the first two books.
Good, but a bit rushed somehow. How long are we in Paris, one night and five pages? Can't wait for the series to get back to London, she seems more grounded there.

I enjoyed this book, but I don't think it was quite as good as the earlier ones. Still full of adventure with hints of steampunk, but a tad run-on for my tastes. I enjoyed the end, but felt half the middle could have been ignored and still reached the same conclusion. So, fun, but not re-readable.

Oof. I had said in my previous review that I don't like conflict that can be resolved with open communication... this was not the book for me. It had enough fun bits to carry me through to the next, but there was too much hand-wringing and not enough Lyall and Akeldama.
