This is a reread for me. It’s been so long since I’ve read this book though so it was in a way new to me. I love the concept for this book. I believe this is one of my least favorite of the series, but it is the foundation to the series. I love the idea of the characters coming alive at night and seeing them. I plan on continuing and finishing this series.

I liked the concept of of the DHI's and entering Disney as basically a hologram, It's almost got a virtual reality feel. I also like that What happens to you on one side happens on the other as well, the danger of it makes it more realistic. The "scavenger hunt" brought in that extra bit of mystery. The plot was very interesting and the storyline was...satisfactory.
That all being said, While it was a good plot, I just couldn't get too invested in the story. Every time I put the book down, which was often, I didn't know if I wanted to pick it up again. The characters all fell flat. There was no depth or development at all with any of them, and that made it a little hard to care.
And what about the villians?? We saw very little of maleficent, less so of the pirates and zero of any other villian. If these kids are such a threat, why isnt there a small army trying to stop them? I guess the all powerful witch and her
(very predictable)daughter was suppose to be able to handle it all by themselves? On that note, the scene with the dolls and how they were stopped seriously had me rolling my eyes.
Finn's mother and father dont seem to actually pay attention or even care about what's going on with their kid. Mom asks about his clothes, thinks hes lying when he tells her what's going on, he says "I'm going to bed" and that's the end of it? No real loving mother would just let that be!
Then there were the girls who end up being twin sisters but it's never stated why the girls appearance was changed or why their significant to the story.
Lastly, what's up with poor Dillard??? I understand kids that age, with no popularity can be awkward but...why input an awkward so-called best friend when all hes gonna do is be awkward, serve as a waiter and a back-up friend??
I may or may not continue with book 2.

I wish the "fight" scenes were a few pages longer but it is a middle grade. It's cool to see Disney in a new way.

This is definitely a book written for younger people but as an adult, I still enjoyed it. I thought it was entertaining and fun - it helps that I love Disney. If you've ever wondered what goes on at the Disney Parks after dark and have a great imagination, I'd recommend this book. It is the first in a series but has an ending so that after reading, you can decide to read the next book or not. Since it's written with the younger crowd in mind, there are no bad words, etc.

Used to be a five star- but after a reread… it is not
adventurous lighthearted medium-paced

Awesome book, I don't usually read junior/young adult fiction but this series caught my eye and looked interesting so I gave it a try. I am glad I did!! At first I had a hard time getting into the story but like all first books it had to give the back story of everybody you meet! Also if you have never been to Disney World some of the things are a little hard to imagine but you can get past that, if you have been to Disney it will make it a little easier. If you love a good clean mystery then this is the book for you no matter your age! After getting into the book it was impossible to put down. Very good especially for the lover of all things Disney!!

This lackluster solo attempt at a rollicking children's adventure from Ridley Pearson only supports my theory.

DID NOT FINISH

Tried to get into this, but I never really did. Stopping after 80 pages. I'm sure my 9 and 11 year old boys would like it if they gave it a try.

Bad advertisement for Disney World. Stilted dialogue, lack of suspense. The magical holograms were more believable than the characters or the situations they were in.
