Y'ALL. this did NOT need to slap as hard as it did. ashley poston, you continue to wreck me with your heartfelt, wonderful characters. rosie was just *chef's kiss* the perfect protagonist. i loved her devotion to books, not taking shit from men who don't treat her right, her charisma, just... literally everything about her.
and VANCE. from what little i saw of him in 'the princess and the fangirl,' i really was skeptical about a whole book dedicated to his story. but now? SOMEONE PROTECT THIS BOY AT ALL COSTS. listen i'm such a sucker for so-called bad boys who actually just have been through A Lot and need someone to hit them upside the head. seeing vance slowly go from the closed-off person he was to being completely open with rosie was such a great journey, plus I LOVED THAT HE'S FRIENDS WITH IMOGEN it was so nice to have her back!
speaking of friendships, all of the friendships in this book were perfect? rosie, quinn, and annie were the perfect trio of characters (and i *loved* that quinn was non-binary and was competing to be crowned homecoming "overlord" LEGENDS ONLY). then imogen and vance were so fun too, with them being video game teammates and imogen calling vance out on his shit constantly.
but the true icing on the cake is how perfect the beauty and the best retelling part of this story was! rosie and vance were just so amazing, starting off hating each other, to a tentative friendship, to eventually falling in love over shared afternoons reading starfield novels. they are probably my fave couple of the once upon a con series, tbh.
anyway, this got long but PLEASE READ THIS SERIES it's so *good*. i don't know if there are going to be more or not (i don't know who they'd follow in a fourth book) but i would not say no if there were more coming *eyes emoji*

When I first heard that Ashley Poston was writing another story set in the Starfield universe, my inner fangirl was ecstatic! I couldn’t wait to be reimmersed in a sci-fi fairytale modern retelling and transported back to ExcelsiCon.

Thoughts
This was a cute YA story, the call backs to beauty and the beast were fun. I really liked that this story dealt with grief and I loved the way it was handled. This was the conclusion to the series and I think it tied up a lot of the other stories that had happened in the series. I think I will always love a fandom story, especially when the girl gets the guy who she has been crushing on.
Listened to the audio of this one. It is a sweet teen rom com reimaging of Beauty and The Beast. My work week was really intense so this was a great distraction. Had I read this at a different time, say when needing more substance, I might feel differently. It was cute though.
I ended up in a murder house about to be murdered by a murderer...
Noooo the name Rosie Thorne so egregious shields eyes
If literally anyone didn't say, "if you like it all that much, it's yours!" after "...daring swordfights, magic spells, a prince in disguise," 10 points from Gryffindor.
My literal favorite moment is when she asks, "are you quoting Howl's moving Castle?" because the obvious response in every situation like that is to laugh your ass off.
I'm okay that these books are just more of the same but...I don't know. Kind of felt like very little happened in this book.
Even though the author's prose gets really eyeroll drama prose every now and then..."Grief comes in waves. It lobs against the sandy beach of your soul..."
...but I can refrain from eye rolling long enough to dig her casual, irreverent style.
So there's more than a lot of ...let's call it female gaziness in these books (all of them) really which is really annoying, actually. I feel like we are objectifying the (specifically gym-type) male body a lot more than is necessary. I am whatever is the opposite of into it. It's kinda super gross.
This book suffers from the rom-com heroine unbelievable accident-proneness disease. Also shit like "cornflower gaze" makes me want to gouge my eyes out.
I stan Space Dad. No that's not quite right. I want to be Space Dad. There it is. That's accurate.
I mean I'm obviously jealous of the library employee who gets to wear ear gauges but that's not it.
Not to be such a librarian about it but Jesus Christ don't put the books back where you got them when you're in the library. Plz.
I think we deserved more of Quinn and Annie in this book.
So here's the thing: renters insurance does not cover anything like that.
Obviously I was shipping Elias and Space Dad from the second they met. Hopefully not in a weird way.
The author made a Fangirl reference and I didn't quit, so congratulations me.
Two boys have what amounts to be a girl fight in this book and it's honestly funny.
The whole time I am fundamentally confused about what Vance's name is. Is it Regans or is it Reigns? It keeps going back and forth.
