You will like this book if you like the following: Explicit sex scenes (lots of them) in which words like “obey” and “possess” are used frequently. Also, you need to enjoy books that end in a cliffhanger. I like series, but I like them to be stand-alone books, so if you read them out of order, it doesn’t matter. I didn’t realize that this book ended in a cliffhanger, so when I reached the end, at first I thought it was an error and that the book had been cut off mid-paragraph.

I’m not a fan of explicit sex scenes, but taking that out of consideration, I thought the story of a woman dumped at the altar who goes to stay at her girlfriend’s ranch was good. While Jade hangs out at the ranch, waiting to hear if she passed the bar exam, she falls for her friend’s troubled brother. The hero's back story was mostly filled in by the end; it was compelling.

If you plan to read the next book immediately after finishing this one, you should enjoy this.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this novel.

I started his book and was not a reader. Well after this book I am now a reader. Helen immediately pulled me into this book. Her detail and description of characters is incredible.

Holy crap

Wow what a wonderful book. This is the first one I've read by this author. I was completely blown away. The passion from Talon and Jade was extremely strong. I feel bad for Talon. He's fighting so hard and then the twist happens. Total holy scrap moment. Can't wait to read the 2nd book in the series.

I fell in love. The detail and time she took into the story line. Talon oh my every time they met in the kitchen the way she describes there encounters together, breath taking. She put so much into talons back story and I’m patiently awaiting to learn more, and the guy with the Phoenix tattoo. It is definitely a must read!!

I give the author credit for the content warning on the front page and for doing something different by extending the story over more than 1 book.
However, the characters and the writing didn't connect with me like other romance writers do.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- Excellent - Highly Recommended
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - A good, solid read
3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - An okay read
2 ⭐️⭐️ - Meh
1 ⭐️ - Not my cup of tea

I endeavor to read at least one book from every genre each year, to stay aware of trends and know at least a couple authors to recommend to other readers. Through the guidance of the Chicago-area Adult Reading Round Table committee, this is an erotica author that is recommended.

So the sexual content is expected and it is certainly explicit. The story line is mostly what a romance reader might hope for. Bride is left at the altar, escapes to her best friend's billion dollar ranch complete with handsome cowboys, and starts a new relationship that sizzles. All to the good. What is even better, is that the story contains an impossibly handsome but aloof cowboy who suffered sexual abuse as a child along with horrible experiences in the Iraq War, so the story has some weight.

On the downside, this young woman is a lawyer and the cowboy is borderline abusive. Yet she cannot seem to help herself in his presence. Oh, please. She stands up for herself in small ways, but seems to be okay being run over by a steamroller in others. The story ends with a distinct cliffhanger so readers will 'crave' the second book in the series. Since I am not likely to head that direction, it would have been nice to see how this abuse situation resolves.

Decent writing, decent plot. Escapist reading.

challenging dark mysterious sad medium-paced

Some of the scenes are a little steamy, but he is abusive and awful to her and she puts up with it. I just couldn't.
