- Plot

Robbie believes he's exactly where he belongs - in Michelle Hughes' pack, with the witch Ezra who has cared for him like family. But the strange dreams that plague him at night suggest otherwise, especially when they're filled with faces he doesn't recognize and a life he can't remember. When his path crosses with members of the Bennett pack, Robbie begins to question everything he thought he knew about himself and those closest to him.

- What Worked

✨ Sweet and compelling romance between Robbie and Kelly
✨ Rico's character stood out among the cast
✨ Getting Robbie's POV made him more sympathetic as I wasn't a huge Robbie fan in Ravensong
✨ Strong emotional moments between pack members
✨ Interesting premise/plot

- What Didn't

✨ Repetitive writing style and conversations
✨ Adult characters often read as inappropriately juvenile
✨ Tonal whiplash between serious moments and crass humor
✨ Stakes feel low due to plot armor
✨ Some world-building inconsistencies which I am hoping will be explained in the next book

- Writing Style

Klune maintains his found family themes, though the writing suffers from repetitiveness. The story balances lighter moments with drama, though sometimes the timing of the humor feels misplaced during more serious scenes.

- Characters

While getting inside Robbie's head helps develop his character significantly, many of the adult characters' behavior feels age-inappropriate. Rico stands out as the most authentically written character while some of the others from previous books like Joe fell a little flat.

- Final Thoughts

While I had some significant issues with the writing style and character behavior, I still found myself invested in Robbie's journey to reclaim his memories and identity. The overarching plot and certain character moments kept me reading despite contemplating DNFing at times. I'd recommend this to existing fans of the Green Creek series who are already invested in these characters and I will be picking up the next book though I'm not in any major rush.
