Udah punya buku ini sejak SMP. Belum lama ini bukunya baru balik setelah dipinjem temen lumayan lama, akhirnya baca ulang sekilas-sekilas.

*setelah ini mungkin agak spoiler*

Waktu SMP caraku ngebaca buku ini pure as an amazing tale. Contoh lain: someone I know recently told me that she was jealous of her business rivals, sampai nuduh kalau saingannya itu jangan-jangan pake cara curang buat cari untung macem babi ngepet, tuyul dkk.

Iman.

I saw the movie years ago and it became one of my favourites. I'm glad to have finally read the book. Of course the movie has some differences but the premise is the same. I enjoy both greatly. I would recommend the book or movie to anyone looking for a fascinating story about the will to survive. The narration is beautifully done in both.

This book reminds me of the essence of religion and what it means to connect with others through faith, regardless of religion. I'm not religious myself but I truly appreciate Pi's perspective.

I do love that Pi challenges the author to write his story in 100 chapters and he does just that.

Edit 8/24/21: OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OKAY I GET THE THING ABOUT BELIEVING WHATEVER U WANT IT TIES IN WITHJ THE ENDISNDISNDKNALDNALSFNSJKFN ITS SO GOOD OKAY BUMPING THIS UP TO A 4 STAR!!!!!!

Original review 8/22/21: i get that this was a kind of frame-story-biography-memoir thing but i don’t feel like the theology and religious aspects at the beginning were relevant because they were never addressed later in the story and slowed down the beginning a LOT. other than that, i liked this novel, especially the island. it was cool in the movie (from what i remember lol i haven’t seen it since it was first in theaters) and it was also cool to get pi’s speculation on it. carnivorous moss oooh aaaahh. this book is just another reminder of my fear of the ocean lol

Good book, but parts of it drag at times when he is on the sea—it is all to document his struggles though, so nothing feels pointless, just long to represent how long he was stranded in the ocean. Definitely feels depressing and hopeless at times, but really puts you in the character’s shoes. There were some really funny scenes/lines at times that had me laughing, but also tragic moments too.

The unparalleled level of detail in the imagery and the viscerally emotional experiences described affix this story among the best I have read thus far in my entire life. The beautiful interweaving of zoology and theology was fascinating and surprisingly relatable despite not being a zoologist. I am a religious person though and I found much of this novel to be inspiring and caused such profound introspection for me that I will never be the same after reading it. Whether the story is "true" as depicted or an allegory drawn up to separate the reader (and the character) from abject horror and human suffering even just a bit is of no importance to me. I am left either way with the impression that God is in all things and that 227 days at sea is a very long time.
