Poor Alucard. This story was the perfect length to tell the story of Rhy and Alucard’s romance, including the initial circumstances that forced them apart. Not necessary at all, but enjoyable to read and a fun (if you enjoying watching characters suffer) supplemental reading for Shades of Magic.

a cute addition to the shades of magic series, this was one of my favorite side couples that i wished had more development and getting a view of their past was nice — i just wanted more of rhys’ and alucard’s interactions pre-alucard being sent away — their relationship felt very brief (which might’ve been intentional) but i would’ve enjoyed even more!

This was a nice little story revealing more of why Alucard left London. We got a snippet of it in A Conjuring of Light but this provides more of the story. It was nice to see a little more of his background story and how he came to Captain the Night Spire.

Loved reading this short story about Alucard and Rhy and how their relationship started and how it came to an end just as quickly.

My heart breaks for Rhy of course but it really breaks for Alucard. :( This whole book was so shitty for him.

Also kinda mad at Kell but also I get he wanted to protect his brother.

Note that this is in the “A Universe of Wishes” anthology. Probably best read between ADSoM and AGoS if you've already read AGoS. I wish I had remembered this existed and I owned that book before I'd finished rereading "A Gathering of Shadows" but here we are - it still packed a punch on my heart.
