4 stars. I never read this one for school so this was new to me and let me tell you, it’s now right up there with Macbeth and Othello as my favorites of Shakespeare’s work. This was so insanely good and I was entertained the whole way through. I also like how Antony and Cleopatra’s relationship is what Romeo & Juliette would be like if that one wasn’t meant to be satire. Very dramatic and over the top and filled to the brim with drama, secrets and betrayal. This play had it all and I loved every minute of it. If you are a fan of Shakespeare and have not read this one, I’d highly recommend it.

I wish I had read Julius Caesar first, just for more context on the triumvirate and Cleopatra's history pre-Marc Antony. Lesson learned.

I generally liked Cleopatra's tempestuous nature and Antony's inability to act in anything other than his own self-interest. Very interesting portrayal of historical figures. Octavius Caesar's final words, "...their story is / No less in pity than his glory which / Brought them to be lamented..." really show that the love was as epic as it was doomed.

One of Shakespeare’s worst plays. He really lost the plot and it shows. I feel you buddy.

He wears the rose
Of youth upon him.

I remember reading the book version of this by another author not William Shakespeare's original play. I really love the tragic story of Antony and Cleopatra but most of all I love William Shakespeare's language. The words he uses are beautiful and powerful. Nothing can compare to his original plays. Even when Cleopatra was undoubtedly in love with Antony she still stayed a strong and powerful women and leader. But I do also think they both had 'Romeo and Juliet' syndrome where they were both caught up in an affair. Which can make the partner more desirable. I loved this so much and now I feel like watching Elizabeth Taylor's 'Cleopatra'.

Give me my robe, put on my crown; I have
Immortal longings in me.
