To reach the end of your life and wish you had time for a few other roads β€” what could be more human?

I'm such a sucker for women's coming of age novels. It took me a little while to fully connect to the story, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. Bertino's writing is dazzling, as equally funny as it is devastating. Despite being an alien, Adina is such a relatable protagonist, and she explores the very human emotions of love, joy, and grief in such a quietly profound way. While I don't think this will Beautyland will be everyone's cup of tea, I adored it.
