I read the audible version of this book and really disliked the narrator. I stick with it, though, because I was hoping the story would make up for it. It didn’t really-rather predictable.
Wow this book was ALL OVER the place. I really struggled with my star rating and truly give it a 3.75. This book had so many twists and turns and I was loving every one!! The unexpected twists were keeping me engrossed in the pages. (The super short chapters were also really nice!!) The thing that kept this book from 4 stars for me was the storyline about Loren, the cop with a past as colorful as his use of language. But I honestly speed read through his chapters because I wanted more about Marie and Matt’s story. The extra storyline was unnecessary and really detracted from the book as a whole. It was really entertaining cover to cover nonetheless and I would be interested to read more by this author!
The Matt-and-Marie part of the book I liked. There were some problems with it, but it was inventive and stayed interesting. The detective side plots of "dark past" and "need to prove something" respectively should have been cut entirely.
3.5 stars
This exemplified a dysfunctional marriage . Was enjoyable. An eye opener towards deviant human behaviour. Matt is an 'unfortunate' husband who loses 2 wives in succession to random death, one a murder and the other an accident . The police are naturally more suspicious the second time round . But are things what they really seem to be ?

I'm between a 2.5-3 stars
I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. The first sentence pulled me in and I had to know what was going on with a husband that would say that about his wife. WE soon meet Matt ,who's married to Janice, and we quickly learn they aren't happily married. Janice makes a discovery that leads them both in directions quite unexpected. Fast forward 20 years later and Matt is married to Marie who just happens to fall off a cliff while they are on a trip for their 20th wedding anniversary. Question is, is Matt killing his wives? If he is, will he get away with it? Enter the police and the story has a subplot involving one of the detectives, Loren, who's a real creep. I have to say, I wasn't interested in the backstory of Loren and whether he killed his partner 30 years ago. Going back and forth between the 2 storylines felt disorganized, almost as if I was reading 2 separate books tossed together to make one story. I also became less invested in caring about Matt and Marie as the story went on. It very much felt like the author was trying to write a story similar to Gone Girl. In the end, I found it pretty predictable

I do love a domestic thriller, but sometimes I think I read too many of them and they become too similar. This one reminded me of Gone Girl, but was extremely vulgar and disgusting at times. I'm also not a huge fan of detective novels and really disliked this detective. I didn't care about the back story of the cops, I found it incredibly boring. I also didn't appreciate the ending.
“A person’s actions can’t be choreographed; life isn’t a ballet recital, after all, it’s a rave, and you have to keep your feet moving to the beat, keep your eyes open so you don’t get knocked to the floor. “
I enjoyed this book, lots of twists. A lot of it takes place in Colorado, so it was fun to recognize some of the places mentioned.

This started out well and ended up good. It was just the middle parts that got all jumbled up.
Matt and Marie have been married for over 20 years and have two college-aged daughters. They are on a hike when Matt steps away to go to the bathroom. When he returns, his wife is missing. Did she fall off the cliff? Did Matt push her? It's even more mysterious when the police find out that Matt had a first wife who was murdered.
The part that gets all jumbled for me is when the two detectives enter the story--Spengler and Loren. Their parts of the story became more procedural and I could have done without any of the backstory about Loren. There were many pages of the story that had nothing to do with Matt and Marie's story and I just wasn't interested.
The story alternates between 1995 with Janice, the first wife, and 2018 with Marie. There are twists and betrayals and things I was like "Really?" Nothing is as it seems with Matt and Marie.

This is a crazy and entertaining read.
I didn't know where this novel was going me when I started reading, but the ride took me all around and left me spinning. Matt and Marie have been married for over 20 years and to celebrate their upcoming anniversary they go on a hiking trip where Marie accidentally falls off a cliff, or so says Matt.
Matt becomes a suspect and his chances of being cleared by the police are diminished when the detectives find out his first wife died under murky circumstances.
I enjoyed the story but found it convoluted at some points. My favorite character was Loren, one of the detectives who is good at his job but also great at cracking jokes. The novel is narrated from different points of view including Matt and the detectives working the case.
Overall, I liked the novel and recommend it to readers of mysteries and thrillers.

This book is disturbing, psychotic, and creepy in all the most amazing and riveting ways! Marie and Matt kept me guessing from start to finish. I felt like I was really witnessing and understanding their crazy marriage. Somehow I still wasn't ready for the ending, but I thought it was perfect! 5 crazy stars to this gripping thriller!
