The fifth volume was as strong as volumes 1&2. I loved the return to Supergirl’s storyline, and even enjoyed the side tangent to Barbara Gordon, her coven, and Louisiana setting (also no Bat Girls-my least favorite plot line).
I enjoyed this a lot better than the last two, and the art is amazing. The story isn't really as strong as I'd like it to be, just because there are so many characters, so the plot gets spread a bit thin.

It’s not too bad, but I’m glad it’s over. It’s kind of exhausting the way the story barely goes anywhere.
This one had it's ups and downs for me. It dragged in some spots, but kept me glued to the pages in others. I think maybe the number of characters is almost a bit too much. There's too many things going on and it feels like we're never getting anywhere until they meet up.
I love this series (it's second only behind Monstress because, well, Monstress). After the detour in vol 4, we're back to a lot of the characters we saw and loved in vol 1. A little disappointed in the lack of Wonder Woman as well as Power Girl's completely unnecessary boob window. I don't have anything against skimpy superhero outfits, but it just seems odd that female artists would be totally cool with that. I dunno.
However, the storyline ties everything up quite nicely. I loved the focus on Kara. And this quote just made the entire book for me:
"'I would have fought,' we think. 'Spoken. Marched. Resisted. Defended. I would not be one of those silent people in a silent world.' Every era has its defining moment. The moment where the clock ceases to tick--ceases to move forward. Where all lives come to rest upon the point of a second hand, close to midnight. 'What would I have done?' In the crises of your life and age and era . . . what you do now is what you would have done then. Fight back the tide of darkness, by whatever means you yet possess."

I'm honestly not too sure what to write about this series. It has a lot of things I like (all the main characters are ladies! and so many of them are queer! and POC! yay diversity!) but I also find the plot kind of... messy. It's really all over the place (quite literally - there are so many characters and the action takes place all over the globe) and it feels over-saturated. I can appreciate that Bennett is trying to give as many characters as possible some screen-time, but there is just so. much. happening. at once. I wish that there were fewer plot threads that were done really well than a dozen of them done mediocrely.
However, despite my somewhat apathetic feelings towards this series I will continue to read it because I love ladies in comics.

These comics are SO good. Superheroines saving the day, mourning, falling in love, finding happiness, fighting evil. Come on, it can't get better than this. Everyone is SO queer and it warms my heart and it makes me cry.
