This story will always remind me of my high school science teacher. Every year at Christmastime, he would take a break from teaching science long enough to read this to his class.
We just read this to our son for the first time now that he's in kindergarten.

apparently the number 3 is extremely important in this book but I’m not seeing it

“But in a last word to the wise of these days let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest. Of all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.”

Summary

Young couple Della and Jim are in love, but very broke. With Christmas just around the corner, Della is heartbroken that she may not be able to afford to buy Jim a Christmas present that showcases her love, so she takes a big risk, unbeknownst that the risk will affect the gift Jim has gotten her.

Theme

Money can't always buy happiness.

Characters

Della
Protagonist, naive, and sweet. Literally SCREAMS older classic female lead.

Jim
Seriously lacks communication skills.

Recommendation

I only recommend this book if you're obsessed with anything related to Christmas or if you just so happen to have to read it for school. Not a bad book ig, just boring.

As I read the first page, I realized I already know the story. I might have read it when I was young. But remember the story very well. Re-read it again now and liked it.

Love it. Quick story about love by any means necessary. You have to sacrifice in life.

Thorough Thoughtful

Fantastic story with a meaningful message. I guess high school students read this sometimes. I think I may have my partner read this.
