I've already written what a Nick Hornby groupie I am. This book is a collection of essays he's written about the books he buys and the books he actually reads (not always the same!). Rabid readers should relate to his obsession with books.

A good read. Hornby has a delightfully conversational style, and the essays are down-to-earth, funny, and occasionally moving. I didn't finish the book feeling changed, but I did feel like I got to know a stranger -- perhaps more satisfying in the end.

Excellent - like Goodreads in a book!! It even gave me some leads on books I want to read. I just wish my reviews were as clever!

It was a hoot to hear someone write about his addiction to buying books and not having enough time to read all of them. Granted I don't have three kids like Nick Hornby does, but all book lovers have that quandry. Not enough time to read all we want. It was an interesting book and to hear what types of books he likes to read.

Fun for obsessive book readers. Quite a few books to check out on his recs. Interesting to have a bit of background on some of the books he raves about, as well as getting a glimpse of how a famous author is just another bibliophile like you and me.

Candy for bibliophiles, especially those of us with a book-buying addiction.

Overall, very enjoyable even if a bit tonally contrasting from month to month.

This book is a collection of essays for lovers of books. If you're ever wondering who and why an author would pick up (or conversely put down) a book, Hornby gives you his answer. Vastly entertaining and a quick read.

Collected essays on reading with lots of good recommendations for your to-read list. Thanks Amy!

Grr...I had hoped, from the subtitle to this book, that it might help ME handle the incessant flow of incoming books on my to-read list. Unfortunately, quite the contrary: I ended up adding a good dozen books to my list! Hah. The read was enjoyable, but I'm not very big into reading reviews, so it wasn't really a good book for me, in the long run. I am, however, looking forward to some of the books Hornby recommended. And his style is always light and fun to peruse. He did make one good point that helped me, which was that maybe we just shouldn't try to stem the flow. Why not just enjoy this plethora of books available to us, and read only what we truly want to read? I am going to try to stick by that mantra. Too often, I end up suffering through the agony of a book that just isn't for me, because I feel like I ought to read it. I need to "give up" on books more often, I think. Not more easily, just more often than I normally do. What places like GoodReads, I can keep a book on my to-read list and always go back to it if I, er, ever run out of books....
