Thank you to NetGalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

And honestly… I did not like this. Not Another Love Song made me feel uncomfortable and I almost DNF’d multiple times, however I felt obligated to finish it. The last ~10ish% was really my favourite part of the book. I was not interested or invested in the main characters, Gwen and Xander/Alex, nor was I interested in their story. I’m not sure if it was just me and the fact that I wasn’t enjoying this book, but it felt flat and like it jumped around very abruptly and chunks were missing. It took me 10 days to get through this and I dreaded picking it up.

I finished the book 10 minutes ago and already forgot the FMC’s name, but Alex… Alex is going to stay with me for a loooong time. Almost a perfect book! I did not agree with the FMC’s choice at the end.
Spoiler I understood where she was coming from, but nobody would turn down an opportunity like that. Especially for some small time symphony that’s clearly been using her to get money. Nor did I understand why Xander would agree to block her when they were so in love.

I never thought I'd enjoy a romance between a cellist and a violinist this much. Gwen and Xander come from different backgrounds, but they both share a talent and love for music. I honestly didn't know what a lot of the musical terms were, but most of them are intuitive and not necessary to actually know. The story automatically has a deeper feel to it with the musical backdrop as the basis on which the romance is built; you can feel the passion the characters have for music and each other. There is a touch of a miscommunication/third act break-up trope, but it is well done and didn't irk me since it wasn't super dramatic.

This was my third Julie Soto book, and it landed in the middle for me; I liked it a little better than Forget Me Not but not as much as Rose in Chains (which was immaculate!).
