This book did everything for the duology that the first book missed the mark on.

Pros:
•The World Building felt intentional and not like an afterthought
•Lore actually made sense and didn’t feel like a copy paste from a guide to Norse mythology
•Characters were fleshed out in a way that they were more than just their actions

Cons:
•I didn’t retain most of the plot from the first book and felt lost in the sauce in the beginning with this one. Definitely suggest reading them together if given the chance

I want to say this book in no way is bad, nor is it badly written I just didn’t like where the story went. The first book, the story, was amazing loved every minute, but this one just didn’t have a story that I loved. Only until the end did I find myself starting to like the story.

This plot is definitely way more plot-heavy, with romance becoming nonexistent until the midpoint of the book. I wasn’t a fan of her feelings being put aside or her being angry with him, then feeling guilty, then angry again so she could focus on the plot. Then when they finally get together, just as the plot twists, leaving room. No meaningful building back up their relationship, just ‘Okay, we have time now in the book.’

Didn’t care too much for the first big plot twist, it came in when everything crashed all together, so I felt emotionally exhausted, so I didn’t have the shocked reaction to it. For the second plot twist I did have a shocked reaction, it was good.

For the ending, it had some “Ooooo” moments, which I always love, but after those, the story wrapped up how you would expect.

I do have to say if this wasn’t the second book, I would have dnf this book before the midpoint. Nevertheless, I’m glad I got to see the ending of this story and the series.

5 fucking stars. This was the perfect duology conclusion. It was action packed. Never a dull moment. The fucking plot twists! No notes.
