I'm 3 chapters in and I'm loving the style. It's written as an oral history . . . interviews with people who knew Rant Casey, the main character. It's a "paying attention" (which I'm not good at!), so we'll see if I continue to enjoy it.
7/7/08 I finished this book a few days ago and I have to say that it got weird at the end. Yeah, I know, because Chuck Palhniuk is usually pretty middle-of-the-road . . . but this was just weird.

it's a typical palhiniuk book and his typical style. i really loved the book up until a point. i was seriously glued to it. it was the ending that i'm still not sure about.
Lots of very interesting concept brought up in this book. This is the 3rd Palahniuk book I've read - 2nd I've actually liked. Weird, but makes you think...
The last hundred pages were unnecessary yet otherwise the book was good.
Not a Palahnuik fav though, for me.
Fav quote:
"In a world where billions believe their deity conceived a mortal child with a virgin human, it's stunning how little imagination most people display."

The plot twists were interesting, but not interesting enough to justify describing the rape of a 13 year old in detail.
The concept and format of the book was intriguing, having never read a book written in that manner. After the first 100 pages, however, it became very difficult to keep characters in line and everything seemed piecemeal. There was no common thread from one chapter to the next.
The layout of the book was intriguing but it was just so weird. But I should expect that with Palahniuk. Sometimes I was really confused about what was going on but then everything ties back up at the end, and I had an "ah-ha!" moment. Interesting read, would recommend!
