Odd that in many cases, form is the saving grace of a book, while the content is lackluster. In this case, the content was... interesting, if nothing else, but the form was- for me- mind-numbingly indigestible. I hated reading this book. Hated, mostly, that it was just interesting enough for me to convince myself I should just power through. Also, I'm not immediately turned off by provocative writing- I'm a fan of Stephen King who often opts for a shock and awe approach to writing, which reasonably is not for everyone- but the provocations in this book were so devoid of meaning, as if perhaps to suggest that value lies in nihilistic, meaningless evocations of disgust and horror? I don't think so. I enjoy engaging with feelings of disgust and horror evoked by many forms of media, specifically because it has some sort of cathartic value. Not so here.

Just wasn't for me.

This book is amazing. I would classify it as sci-fi-ish.

Quite a hard read, but when finally done, I was amazed by the brilliance of it.

this book is not for everyone, it is really strange and definitely not suitable for children or sensitive people, but once you start to ready it you can't stop. It is very well written and very unique.

Not my favouraite Palahnuik but interesting. It all got a bit confusing towards the end. And being a pug owner I didn't like the pug death bit :-(

Some interesting ideas, but they feel underdeveloped and over explained. Characters are 2d, and its not near as subversive as it thinks it is.

Book 1 for my 2015 Reading Challenge
"A book by an author you've never read before."
My 1st Palahniuk book.

This writing style is so new to me that I had a bit of trouble grasping what was going on in the first few pages. When I did settle in to its style, things really picked up and it was quite a ride! It's not a book I went at in one sitting though because it deserved a slow pacing. Your mind's going to have to take time and digest the info. At least I did.

The only problem I had with this book is the intentional grammatical error to add personality to how some of the characters talk I think but it was rather bothersome. "Sawed" instead of "seen"... Ummm yeah. I have successfully ignored all the others but this one can't escape me at all. Also, what on earth does "boosting peaks" and "port" mean? They keep using those terms and I'm still not quite sure what they mean exactly.

That aside, this book was just great! I actually learned a lot and got me thinking and made me want to look in to some things because this is of course a work of fiction and doubt should be put to its accuracy, but the idea is there. It sparks a thought and it really got me thinking. Yummy mental exercise definitely.

Heads up though, don't believe what's written on the back of the book. It's misleading. LIES. And that's what makes this awesome! Then again... would you believe me or the book? It all boils down on how you perceive the story then I guess.

Lastly, that "twist". I don't know what to make of it. Mixed feelings definitely. It made me feel like the story just went 180 or maybe I was just not seeing it right. But then it made sense... In way that doesn't make sense. What? Hahahaha. Read it!

I'm definitely picking up another Palahniuk after this!
