This book gets better and better every time I read it, but listening to the audiobook was a transcendental experience. The book was written as an oral history and the audiobook sounds SO legit. Also was so stoked to find George Guidall in there, he's such an incredible voice actor. Highly recommend listening to this as opposed to reading it. It's so insanely weird, IMHO Palahniuk's best.

This was the first Palahniuk book I read and it wasn't what I was expecting at all. I picked it up, because someone likened it to World War Z by Max Brooks. Instead I got a mostly compelling read about a mysterious weirdo, but then the time travel kicked in turning this book into something completely different than what it started out as. Talk of the weirdo (Rant) diminished as the theories/philosophizing about time travel and religion increased. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with time travel. It's just that this book left me wanting more and not in a good way. More in a WTF just happened? Did I really just spend hours of my life reading this? way. Kind of like I felt when the TV show, Lost, ended. I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book, but the final 1/3 left much to be desired.

My favorite Chuck book by far, and the only one I've read more than once.

I also read this in Mexico--Andrew and I were a bit sick, a lot of reading time. I don't normally choose this author because he is so graphic and verbally violent, but this book was actually enjoyable. It had a lot of very interesting social commentary and some really, somewhat freaky twists. You begin this book kind of maybe thinking you might have a hazy clue of what it is about, then you generate a strong stance, and then the floor is taken out from under you, and you realize that your perceptions have been entirely incorrect. This, I guess, is his point though. Interesting read.
