i loved this book. it was fun and entertaining and didn’t have any of the middle lag that some of terry pratchett’s early books have. the many references to shakespeare were very well incorporated and i loved the depiction of the witches. i did guess the ending halfway through because i’ve read the tiffany aching series, but it was fun to see the connections between all of pratchett’s books.

I have listened to 1.5 out of 4 radio episodes and genuinely have absolutely no idea what is going on, so I think this is not for me.

Wyrd sisters is the second novel in the witches series and the sixth novel in the Discworld series. It features a trio of witches named Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and junior witch Magrat Garlick. Wyrd Sisters tells the tale of a murdered King and the search for his heir. In the Discworld, it if very uncommon that Kings die from what most of us would consider natural causes, so there is plenty of foul-play to be investigated. The witches eventually become aware of the situation and decide that they must attempt to steer the events as they are unfolding, even though that goes against the common rules for witches.

This is another example of the fine comedy and satire that Terry Pratchett consistently delivers. It is particularly funny to see the various reactions of the witches to various social constructs, in particular The Theater. The story is very interesting, and while maybe not the strongest of the series, good enough given some fairly strong comedy support.

Terry Pratchett created a humorous Macbeth/Hamlet mashup starring Granny Weatherwax. I adore Granny and other than the whole she's a witch thing she reminds me a bit of my grandma. "Granny's implicit belief that everything should get out of her way extended to other witches, very tall trees and, on occasion, mountains."

I liked the traveling theatre troupe and thought this was an amusingly accurate description of the writing process: "Tomjon tried to get an early night, but sleep was murdered by the sound of creativity from the next room."

So far Pratchett's novels seem to stand alone and I think you could read this without having read any of others.

An excellent read for a fan of fantasy, fun, and Shakespeare! Pratchett always manages to include observations on how the world works in the midst of the hilarity. This book has that again and again! A great read.

I just finished rereading this with Kelli, and coming back to this story, Pratchett's ability to build deeply satisfying stories, with complex structures and characters, all in writing that is sharp, and clever, and deeply funny, is mind boggling. The book is no less enjoyable a second time.

This is the first Discworld reread that I didn't enjoy as much. When the witches were "on screen" I was happy, when anyone else was the focus of the story I was either bored, or confused, or bored and confused. It's as though the formula was off.

Going to skip ahead to Guards Guards to make myself feel better.

"a plot not unlike that of a certain scottish play..."
