Just finished it and thought I'd write down some of my thoughts before I read the opinions of others. It was a sad book, and it's sort of hopeful throughout the book, or at least like we are leading up to something, mainly because of the narrative style of the narrator reminiscing on her past and jumping around through interconnected events. As we move along the story coming closer to the present, you gradually learn more about the world and the truth. But it's sort of slipped in as if the reader should already know. I really feel for the characters and this world, I was hoping they'd run away or something idk, I just wanted more for them. And In the beginning I wasn't the biggest fan of ruth because I could see what type of "toxic" friend she was, but then in part 3 she's just so "down" and the others gang up on her the way she would... Anyways, they deserved better!! Such a hopeless story, honestly I figured the deferral wasn't a thing. Kathy did feel a bit weak too me though, she's the main character yet we get the least amount of personality.

This book was something new and something heartbreaking. I really enjoyed it, and I think learning the world of Hailsham slowly over time made me want to keep reading. I liked the way this was written. My only critique was the repetitiveness of the way the story unfolded. For example, “I’ll tell you about that in a minute” was probably stated about 40 times throughout.

The selling point of this book is hopelessness. I found it to be satisfying.

The main character has such a clear voice & way of expressing herself that it felt like I was sitting down beside her, listening to her telling me the story. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did, but I had a great time reading Never Let Me Go!!

Haunting. The story lingers with you, making you grateful for your humanity but heart-broken at the ways in which we steal innocence from each other when trying to shelter others from reality. Told with intentional hollowness, while the ending revelations hold you chillingly to the final page. Those who loved The Giver as a child will appreciate this mature treatment of similar themes. It leaves you unresolved, forced to wrestle with your own answers to the big questions.
