I can’t say I’ve ever read a book about trolls, but this was a very interesting read. Cant wait to dig into book 2 and 3.

Enjoying learning more about the world of the Kanin and Trylle. Not sure if Bryn is as engaging as Wendy but am looking forward to learning more about her.

The concept of this book sounded interesting but after reading it I am fairly disappointed.

I did not connect with the characters and I was expecting a lot of action which did not did for me. Most of it was romance and although I liked it, it just was not enough for me.

I will continue with the book hoping that it gets better. 2.5 stars.

What kind of ending was that?! It was way too fast and left me with so many questions unanswered!! But nevertheless, I really enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and I enjoyed being back in the world of the Trylle, but from the Kanin perspective. I can't wait for the next two installments!

I liked this book. Solid read, but it's light dealing of important issues bothered me. As I'm sure it's supposed to. Just doesn't make reading it any easier. The casual acceptance of racism, classism, and abandonment and kidnapping that are so prevalent in the Kanin society bother me. So much. And the worst is that our protagonist, Bryn, is one of the ones who most accepts it. She's given up already where I want her to fight and rebel.

Bryn is only half-Kanin, and for that she has been shunned as an outsider. However, she has been determined to be one of the elite Kanin guard in an attempt to prove her worth. A run-in with an old enemy that tried to kill her and her father, starts a series of dangerous and secretive events that leads Bryn to start to question the politics of her people. There's more going on here than most those around her would accept.

A good first book, it ends abruptly, and with A LOT of questions still unanswered. I have only the merest hints at what could be going on big picture. Makes me glad I have book 2 to delve into right away. This book primarily focused on Bryn's job and personal relations without getting in to much of the politicking that I'm sure is the cause for everything she's going through. I also wanted more of Konstantin. For being supposedly such a key character there are all of 3 interactions between him and Bryn, and they all lasted only a page or two. Not much given in those scenes.

Overall, I liked it and will be starting book 2 shortly.

'Justice? Does that mean you'll drag them back here? Or are you going to kill them all?'

When I stumbled across this book, I knew literally nothing about it. I adored Amanda Hocking's 'Trylle Trilogy' so I was so excited to re-enter that world. This novel made me feel incredibly nostalgic and I loved the cameo appearances. Amanda Hocking incorporated these appearances so incredibly well because when they were there it was amazing, yet they did not overpower the new storyline and the new characters! This book is a really promising start to the book series and I'm excited to see where Amanda Hocking takes the series!

As much as I love this author, the series ended at an odd place. I felt like it's missing the enchantment the Trylle series had. Don't get me wrong, it's worth reading. I'm eager to see how the story plays out in book 2.

I was pleasantly surprised! I have read a lot of Amanda Hocking books and I've barely liked any of them. I can't even remember most of the plots! Frostfire was pleasantly surprising. I loved the main character, Bryn, loved the addicting story line, and adored the romance. God, that part was amazing. It's definitely an improvement from her Wake series (which I was not a fan of) and her Trylle series (which was okay). Needless to say, I really think that Hocking's writing has improved throughout the years.

Let's start with Bryn, the main character. I loved her. She definitely had her flaws (but let's face it, who doesn't?) but I think she makes up for it with an amazing strength. For example, she's way too obsessed with her work but she is damn good at it. She is very close minded at times but she is also really determined. See what I mean? Bryn is no Mary Sue in my opinion. She is so different from all the other Hocking protagonists I've read. It was really fun to read from her perspective.

The actual plot was so cool. It was mostly rising action to prepare for the next books but it was still pretty good. One of the people from Bryn's past comes back to haunt her and is stalking the changelings. The entire book revolves around figuring out what is happening. I liked it. It was fun and addicting. All I wanted to do was figure out what was going on with the changelings! There was a little too much building up and a lot of world building but it didn't impede the story. One thing I strongly disliked though was the climax.
SpoilerIt lasted for, like, two seconds! Viktor comes out of nowhere and commands Konstantin to kill Bryn. In the next line, she gets knocked out and it turns to black. Then it jumps immediately to the next scene. I did not read 300 some pages to get two seconds of action.

Now for my favorite part: the romance. I'll admit, I am a complete sucker for romance stories. I can't get enough of them. There does come a point where romance becomes repetitive and overcomes the entire plot. (I'm looking at you, Ignite Me) It feels like all romances are the same at some point. This romance, though. IT WAS SO GOOD. It was a slow, angsty burn. By the end, I was mentally screaming for Ridley and Bryn to kiss. It didn't take over the plot but it had me wanting more. There were a lot of heated glances but Bryn never lets that get in the way of her work. I can totally get behind her for that. She's nineteen and it just wouldn't be right for her character to just throw all her hard work aside for a boy. The angst, though. The romance was well done. It was definitely my favorite part of the story because it had me rooting for the characters to get together. Ridley and Bryn forever!

Frostfire was definitely surprising. I did not expect such a good story from Amanda Hocking but I'm glad her writing has improved. I am so excited to read the next few books!

More of a 3.5

Frostfire an extension of the Tryll series (it’s about trolls!) For me, one of the best endings to a series that I have read. I was hoping that would carry over to this series.

The book was…eh. Bryn is half one type of troll and one half another troll type. She’s the one who is sent out to collect changelings and integrate them back into troll society. But then the troll who almost killed her father comes back, her boss falls in love with her, and she must go to her mother’s homeland to find a murderer. The plot stalls for a while, and Bryn reacts to some situations, I'd say, irrationally. You don’t really need to read the Tryll series to get into this one, but I’d recommend it.

I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I really enjoyed Hocking's Trylle series, but never could get into her water one. I was hoping this book would bring me back into it, seeing as it's also about trolls. My problems with it:
1. Bryn: I couldn't relate to her. Her extreme emotional fluctuations, her inconsistency all drove me nuts. Some of the decisions she made didn't follow what the reader had learned about her earlier.
2. Ridley: I really liked him, but I didn't understand his interactions with Bryn. They had some really tender moments which were some of my favorite in the book, but his other decisions frequently conflicted. I understand the love triangle aspect, I just think it wasn't needed or realistic, especially with Bryn's connection to Konstantin.
3. Plot: I didn't feel much was resolved. We needed the reveal of why Konstantin was working with the bad guys. Not just who the bad guy was. (Don't want to spoiler) I felt it was a little bit of a letdown. After getting all the way through the book, I felt jipped.
The only reason I got through it so fast was because I wanted to read the next book on my stack really bad.
