Nothing happened in this 400-page book! Ok, this is not my genre or field of interest, and I had no knowledge of Queen Victoria prior to reading this (spoiler: I still don't), but I'm so frustrated because this book simply had no real content. There's absolutely no plot, and there's no character development...so what is the point? I see a lot of the negative reviews felt similarly, so at least I'm not alone, but this was hard to get through.

Honestly, I skimmed the last quarter of this one. Not even skimmed. I basically DNF the last quarter. Maybe if I hadn't seen the show before I read the book it would've held my interest better.

It's fine and I could definitely finish it very quickly but I'm not really in the mood to read it.

Oh boy, where do I begin?

First off, on the cover of the book it says, "an irresistible love story." I'm confused. What "irresistible love story?" Because it sure wasn't Victoria and Albert's. In a 400 page book, it takes to about page 320 to see Albert and then to about page 350 for Victoria and Albert to even interact. That only gives them 50 pages to have an "irresistible love story" and trust me it wasn't there.

Maybe the "irresistible love story" was between Victoria and Lord Melbourne and if that's the case then this book should have been advertised differently. I did not sign up for an 18 year old and a 40 something year old to make eyes at each other. I signed up for Victoria and Albert!

The ending of the book felt like there should have been more, but when I turned the page it was over. How can you end the story of Victoria and Albert like that? There was so much to their relationship once they were married that would have been interesting to see. Unless the story all along was just about Victoria and her first year as Queen. Once again, book should have been advertised differently then. The only parts of the book that I generally enjoyed were when Albert finally appeared, all the mentions of Albert through out the book (because it pushed me to keep reading until he showed up), and the beginning with Victoria trying to get her footing as a young Queen. Parts I didn't care about? Any scene with Lord Melbourne and, unfortunately, there was a lot of them.

Sigh. This is why I don't read romance.

I enjoyed this book. I watched the series before i read the book and they are essentially the same word for word. Because of this, I had a hard time focusing because I knew everything. it’s very well written and i love that it has several narratives. I highly recommend both the book and series but if I could do it over again I would read the book before I watched the series.

I enjoyed listening to this peek inside the early years of Queen Victoria. It got a bit repetitive in the second half, but all in all, it was interesting and pleasant to listen to.

Enjoyable read! When watching the show I felt like I was getting lost in a good book, so this didn't disappoint. I particularly liked the uncertainty of Victoria's relationship with Albert. The book stopped before the show, so I'm hoping there will be more.
