Good! I am a huge fan of the first season of Victoria the tv show. This book is essentially the whole first season. Possible spoilers below:
My only complaint is that Albert doesn’t even show up until the last 7 chapters and their romance is one of my favorite parts.

This was an easy read as the chapters were short and they were always about an event in Victoria's life. However, it read more like little vignettes or scenes from a show, just flitting from one event to the next. Not much depth or substance. Interesting but not so enlightening.
I listened to this book on CD and it was interesting to hear the British accents. It's well written. The series on TV last year follows the book very closely, so I already was very familiar with the story.
I wanted to finish this before watching the PBS version, and while I liked it enough, I think the story is much more conducive to a show than a book. It didn't feel like there was enough of a continuous plot arc: there was one main conflict that resolves 70% of the way through, and then the last bit is a new arc that doesn't emotionally resonate because it just doesn't get enough time to build.
This is a nonfiction book about Queen Victoria that covers her life from being a young girl to her engagement with Prince Albert.
I am not sure how well-researched the book is since the author did not provide a supplement telling about her research and the rest of the story (I think all nonfiction books should have this).
The book kept me engaged and tried to keep the mystery of if, when, and who Victoria married. Even though I knew the love, devotion, many children, and legacy of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert the tension in the book was enjoyable.
If you ever make it to London do spend a day or part of a day in the resplendent Victoria and Albert Museum.

I admit not to being over impressed with this, yet another historical fiction of Queen Victoria. It's a story of the young Princess Victoria, what she endured under the Kensington system, through her early reign and asking Albert to marry her. I actually missed no mention of Baron Stockmar and at the time was an unmistakable presence, even more so than her Uncle King Leopold I of Belgium. Another issue I had was with Lord Melbourne ...seriously????
I loved the PBS series Victoria and was excited to read the novel the show was based around. I appreciate the author was responsible for both the novel and the screenplay, and found that season one of the series and the novel were very much the same, which was not a bad thing, just not what I'd expected.
I love history and have always found England's royal family fascinating, with a soft spot for Queen Victoria. I enjoyed this fictionalized account inspired by her own diaries of what it must have been like to become Queen so young and so indirectly, and to then need to find a husband and navigate the complicated political game.
I really enjoyed this book, and if you enjoy historical fiction, the royal family, and strong female characters, then I would recommend this book.
