I absolutely love historical fiction especially with strong women. Daisy Goodwin did a lot of research for this story and made a convoluted family line and history make sense!

So the story is about Victoria's first 2 years as Queen of England.

Victoria's father was supposed to be king but died young and was unable to. A few of his brothers took the throne after his death but none produced heirs. At 18 Victoria's uncle dies with no heirs making her Queen of England. She was raised by a German mother and was uneducated to the ways of the world and politics. She was a rebellious teen that now had to figure out how to be a resourceful leader. In love with someone she can't have and has to battle against men who think a woman can't do the job she shows everyone that she can do it! It also has a love story that is both juicy and forbidden but to keep her power she must marry nobility!

I loved how well Goodwin was about to write the ambiance and setting off the time, it felt like I was watching a TV show not reading a book. That's how well I could image everything.

Overall love this book.

Recommended to historical fiction lovers or those who love coming of age stories with a very young and strong character.

i don't know what it is about daisy goodwin that makes me not want to put down her books while simultaneously conscious of the fact that there's absolutely no plot

Now that I finished this novel, I want to watch the PBS series. I thoroughly enjoyed the voice in this.

I really enjoyed this story about Queen Victoria's early years. Unfortunately, when I started it I didn't know the story only covered a short time at the beginning of her reign. I was definitely left wanting more!! A very well written historical novel.

If you have watched the first four episodes of the ITV show Victoria (which aired on PBS in the United States), you have read this novel. All the novel truly is is the first four episodes. Some scenes are cut out (they more or less take out the servant story lines) and some character thoughts are added in; however, word-for-word it is more or less the show. Nicely written, but the novel felt more like a media-tie-in than a novel.

Read this while also watching the series, which helped bring some clarity to who the characters were. I think there are some historical in this story, but it’s still compelling, entertaining and an overall very worthwhile read.

I loved this book and found Goodwin's interpretation brought the characters to life. Towards the end, I found that she had not developed the relationship between Albert and Victoria enough for the reader to understand the attraction. Nonetheless, I recommend the book and the tv series that was created.

Victoria is a nicely written, very enjoyable narrative. It follows the path led by the ITV series, but stops quite earlier than I expected. It explores part of the story that we could not see on the series, because of timing or medium. I found that I could relate more with every character, that parts were even more dramatic than on screen and I must confess that if Lord M had my complete favour, now I cannot but wish to snog the Coburg brothers to death. So, in the end, I highly recommend it: highly entertaining, well written and engaging to the right point.
