This book is the fictional account of a young Queen Victoria, from childhood to her engagement. It was written to accompany a series that will be airing this fall on PBS, which I discovered after I finished the book.

This book is long. And at times it really feels like it is long. The novel is divided into 4 books. I found myself skimming through Books 2 & 3 and my interest picking up again in Book 4. There are many characters in the book, it would have been helpful to have a glossary or diagram to explain all the titles and roles. Coming from a non-British background, it was hard to decipher at times.

All in all, this was a good read. I am interested to see how it is adapted for television.
I would check this book out from the library, but not purchase it.

I received an advanced reader copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This novel details the uneventful and uninteresting early life of the British Monarch Queen Victoria and some details of Prince Albert (not in the tobacco can)! The author fails to imagine anything that would add interest to the novel and it is amazing that those Brits maintain their Royals (to what purpose?)!

I really wish she would write another novel finishing Albert and Victoria’s love story 😭

Det kändes som att boken var skriven efter en film eller tv-serie, vissa delar var nästan som sceninstruktioner:
”INTERIÖR - stora salen
Victoria går in i salen.

Escapism at its finest. Daisy Goodwin makes this book guilt-free!

Luisterde heerlijk weg. Mooi inkijkje in de autoritaire rol van het koningshuis en de aristocratie in haar tijd. Fijne afleiding in coronatijd.

I won this early edition via a Goodreads giveaway and say that I loved the book. As a historical fiction fan but more so a fan of British royalty, past and present, I was very intrigued by the story of a younger Victoria.

I loved seeing the relationships grow and change in her life, from her mother, Lord M, and Albert. The book left me wanting more of the brave queen. At several times I was reminded of the movie "The Young Victoria" and Emily Blunt's masterful portrayal of this queen that would change the monarchy and the world.

Thank you Daisy for such an insight into this Queen's life.
