Really enjoyed this book!!! It was a feel-good book that sometimes (just sometimes) made me irritated towards the main character. But at the end of the book I was reading with a smile thinking "what a good book"

A beautifully well-written account of Queen Victoria’s time between her ascent to the British throne and her engagement to Prince Albert. While much more focused on the personal relationships of the characters than any true historical events or political intrigue, it was nevertheless an insightful look at Britain’s second-longest reigning female monarch in her younger years.
I received a copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway and St. Martin's Press. Thank you!
Overall I enjoyed this book and it's insight into Queen Victoria's early years on the throne. I have read and heard so much about her later years and her widowhood that I never gave much thought to how strange and difficult it must have been for her to go from a sheltered young girl to Queen. There were times when I was frustrated with her attitude and her reactions to such situations as the Bedchamber Affair, but she was only 19 after all and entitled to make some mistakes. I was impressed at her aim to rule on her own and learn as much about her job as possible. She was trying to be an independent woman like Queen Elizabeth I, and that must have been very difficult with everyone else running around telling her she needed a man to settle her down and help her rule.
I found that the writing flowed very well, and the author strove to show the major characters from many angles. I could also see Victoria growing and maturing as the book progressed, and it made me like her even more.

Usually, I prefer to read a book before watching the related TV series / movie. This time, I watched the TV series without realising that there was a book.
And it was actually surprisingly pleasant, having a visualisation of the cast of characters in my head as I read. Even if the whole book is just a cut down version of the TV Series by the same author.
An easy, enjoyable read.

Interesting read. I knew very little about Queen Victoria. I can’t imagine the crap she had to deal with regarding the men in leadership positions trying to question her ability to lead.

This book was a lot more surface-level and one-dimensional than I would have expected for a novel about the early reign of Queen Victoria. I wish it had focused more on actually developing the character of Victoria instead of an absolutely dull and shallow "forbidden romance" angle with Victoria and Lord Melbourne.
Pretty solid read on the early life of Queen Victoria. So many stories take place in her "era", but I've never really gotten to know her and what her life was like before she became the queen (little bit of a brat if I say so myself).
Did feel a little long, however, and there were definitely parts that I kind of just skimmed and skipped. It's not a book that will necessarily transport you back in time - definitely focused more on the human side of things. While I didn't need to know the cut and make of dresses like some books agonizingly go over, I wish there was just a little more to add to the ambiance of the story.
