Not interesting enough

I loved the concept of this book which tells snippets of backstories of numerous librarians and book sellers. Whilst I did enjoy many of the stories, even shedding a tear or two it felt very repetitive after a while, like I was reading the same thing over and over. A longer version from each character I think would have been more enjoyable.

I would also have liked to hear from other parts of the world, not just USA. Perhaps throw in a Street Library or two as well!

Maybe I need to write my own Aussie version, alternatively I volunteer Trent Dalton as tribute!

A really lovely and inspirational book. I loved learning more about the behind the scenes aspect of owning a bookstore. While the message of this book is powerful and important I think it was a little too long, as the essays started to feel repetitive by the end.

Of course I had to read this book dedicated to librarians & booksellers! Not sure it should be called the secret lives but more like the behind the scenes work that goes into being a bookseller and/or librarian. I was moved to tears several times and found myself nodding my head in agreement too. Book lovers will enjoy this book but it did get a tad redundant since so many of the contributors did the same job and had similar stories

Delightful tales from librarians and booksellers. Even though they come from all backgrounds, many of the elements of their stories were the same. It made for a light, meditative read - charming like an indie book shop. While I’m over here contemplating how I could get an MLS fully funded, I do want to mention that I was not aware of James Patterson’s philanthropy before reading this. But it was crazy to read how much he has done for the literary community, supporting book sellers and bookstores when they needed it most. What a cool guy. I find myself so grateful he does what he does.
