I loved Insecure. This felt like a prequel of sorts!

Loved learning more about Issa Rae’s journey.

Great insight into Issa Rae's childhood and who she is today. Love her humor and now want to take in more of her content.

Entertaining read (or listen). As an awkward person, I expected a lot more awkward in this confident, successful voice. Growing up in a variety of places -- MD, CA, Senegal--Issa has some difficulty gaining social traction as a kid. By young adulthood, though, she's successful and has found the man who may be her longtime love. My favorite anecdotes are the ones where she lies, i.e. claiming to own all the ratchet music her friends like. Most of this seems pretty run-of-the-mill millennial memoir (say that fast).

I love Issa, and I love, love, love "Insecure." Been a minute since I read this, but I remember enjoying it, but also wishing that there had been more autobiographical content. The essays were the most interesting when she was writing about her own life.

3 1/2. think i might have read enough of these millennial celeb memoir/essay collections. i'm familiar with Issa Rae through news about her. i didn't follow her youtube or blog and don't watch her show but will watch when it's available to stream. smart and astute at time--particularly in discussing entertainment industry, race and gender. those essays i favored over others.
