i love issa rae even more

I love Issa Rae, I did not love this book.

I like the Insecure show from Issa Rae so I thought I'd try the book about her precursor Internet show ABG. I love reading about people's backgrounds and how they got to where they are. This story is good but I find so many stories of early internet users hard. I'm grateful for the early adopters but I just cannot relate. I think this is a little reminiscent of the Girls narrative in which they were born in the 80s which was such a different experience that's so foreign to me. My hope is to listen and learn from them and I'll keep trying to find new voices.

Fun and funny read with more serious and touching anecdotes throughout. I really enjoyed it and Issa’s voice shines through! I felt disappointed seeing all the nods to diet culture and fat phobia throughout, but I guess we are all on our own journey.

If you like Issa Rae and her humor, then you will like this book. I did the audiobook and she reads it, which is great!

I love Issa. So much of this book resonated with the awkward parts of my life. Mostly, Issa is just really funny, apparently a frequent liar, and just overall great. Some parts of this book I was like "I can't believe she wrote this down" but mostly I was viewing this from the POV of the Issa who made Insecure, movies, and has been an overall powerhouse of a creator. I love her, messiness and all.
