Reading this makes Issa simultaneously more and LESS relatable than before. The struggle seems less of an actual struggle when Dr Daddy is there to foot the bill... and give you 10k to start a business. Some of the childhood stories are funny, at least!

There were some funny moments but a lot of the book felt all over the place. I liked listening to Issa Rae's narration. This was written pre-Insecure and I'd love to read another book that talks more about how she started the show and life since this book was written.

Audio book. Surprised by how much I liked it.

Issa Rae's famous introspection and wit definitely shone through her first collection of personal essays. Learning about her Sengalese roots as well as how she navigated Black awkwardness made her book a gem.

This was ok. The stories were all over the place and the thoughts jumped back and forth. I found myself questioning if I missed chapters because she would mention stuff with no back story.

The only good thing about it was it was short and quick.
