Jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, and simply unforgettable. Most importantly, however, its gut-punch provides a tear-jerking reason to live.

Make no mistake, it's definitely not for everyone--it takes risks and fumbles here and there, but ultimately winds up encompassing everything I love about fiction. Its emotional core is striking, its characters deep and rich, its concept absolutely perfect, and, of course, it takes risks, and when the risks pay-off, they really pay off.

It's a moving novel, so moving that I can't help but respect it to its very core, even when it makes a few tiny missteps.

No guarantee you'll like it as much as I did, but definitely give it a read.

I was 120 pages in and ready to DNF it. I was wondering if there was going to be some more actions or if it was going to be Seth only trying to discover where he was.
Thankfully the other characters appeared quickly after.
I enjoyed the story and the way the book is written. I felt sad for the characters. It is clearly a YA book but still enjoyable.

Wish I had some answers about what the driver was and what happened to the characters after he died but otherwise solid story.

BOOO it felt like the longest book o have ever listened too! Good things first: I listened to this as an audiobook read by Nick Podehl and he was wonderful. Great Job. The little polish boy who’s name I cannot spell (tomage?) iconic. I love him, he was the highlight of this book.

Bad stuff: PLEASE PATRICK NESS EDIT YOUR BOOKS. The pacing and mystery was actually really good until we meet Tomage (?) and Rajean (again audiobook I do not know how to spell these names) and then the book begins to drag on for chapters and chapters of meaningless interactions. It’s like Patrick couldn’t decide what kind of book he wanted to write and decided to include a scene (or multiple chapters!!) that followed one plot line that eventually went nowhere. If he had answered a single!! question maybe I could forgive him but the ending is stupid.  The premise is promising but he ends it stupidly. Go watch the matrix, it’s essentially the same thing.

I wanted to give up when I had 45 minutes left and could barely slog through the ending. That should’ve been the most on the edge of your seat part of the book.

There were plenty of elements that I enjoyed about this book: suspense, general plot and tropes, the feeling of “more than this” that was provoked by wanting to know what happened next. A few things like character development (Tomasz’ english was a big one) could have been better for me. Overall a good read.
