About as satisfying as flat soda.

I enjoyed this duology. It was a bit predictable and had a happy ending, but sometimes you just need things to be "neat". The characters were believable, flawed, and "real". It did seem to take a while to get to the climax, and then it was over. Still a good book (and series) and I would recommend it to romance and fantasy lovers.

I was expecting more. The first book seemed so much better, and I was hoping that with this one the weird first person to third person switches would be solved, but no.

First of all, I did not understand where she somehow killed some kids, but I might not have been paying attention. And then the fact that there was like 40 assassins, when I thought that the guild was super selective, and the fact that they were all like, “ive wanted to be an assassin since I was a kid!” Okay kid, you’ve wanted to kill people since you were 8? Weird.

And then the death of King Phras and the kid with the J name. I already forgot about him. It seemed lame/anticlimactic, and honestly I did not like it.

3/5 stars.

challenging emotional sad medium-paced

The first book was so good, so I was excited to pick up this sequel. I'm sad to say it was very lackluster in comparison. I almost DNF'd a couple times...it felt like the 2nd book in a Trilogy that didn't get picked up so they rushed they end to make it a duology. Seriously, the ending was wrapped up in the last 30 pages with a bow and I was left so confused and frustrated.

~*~SPOILERS AHEAD ~*~

The main characters were insufferable! They were seriously both so annoying, jealous, and stuck in their heads. It doesn't help that they spent most of the book SEPARATED! I picked this book up because I wanted to continue reading about their relationship and it gave me practically nothing.

On the other hand, I'm glad Jander got his happy ending! He was pretty quiet for most of the book, but at the end you realize he's just very observant. He figures out who the villain is and how to lure him out. He does most of the work and gets to finally die peacefully having broken his curse. All Lilac does is shoot a single flaming arrow, given to her by Hansen, to destroy Phras (very anti-climactic).

Overall, I was very disappointed.
