More than a pinch of magic here, as the Widdershins sisters - Fliss, Betty and Charlie, learn of a curse that has been placed upon their family. Excellent story, I loved it. I was completely on edge in the middle of the book and ended up reading it to finish well into the early hours! I just couldn’t put it down.
An easy read too, would definitely recommend if you enjoy magic, centuries old curses and sweet sister relationships then you have to pick this up.

Ok so I kinda sorta think I love this book? I loved the three sisters and how they bicker but they still look out for each other. I also absolutely loved the story and the high stakes that I definitely did not expect in a middle grade.
Our three sisters each have such a vibrant personality, each one has their own characteristics and they each have their own voice (so often all characters have the same 'voice') and it made this such a fun read. They work so well together and they have such an adorable relationship, it makes the whole story super charming because it really feels like they care about each other.
Then we have the plot, things go from bad to worse for these sisters and I was rooting so hard for things to sort out. We have twists and turns throughout the story and I genuinely couldn't see where the plot was going and I absolutely loved it! I loved the magic aspect aswell in this story, I don't think it was overdone and it made the story just so much better.
Overall I would absolutely recommend this book, I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I was 100% not expecting this amazing story in a middle grade and I would say to anyone don't underestimate this book (or any middle grade for that matter). This book is amazing and you need to go pick this up right now!

My 8yo and I both thoroughly enjoyed this. It kept us both guessing until the end, and provoked some really good discussions with her trying to figure it out! It’s enchanting, with strong female leads promoting loyalty, bravery and doing what’s right. 100% recommend from both of us :)

Betty, Flis en Charlie zijn drie zusjes. Ze wonen bij hun oma, boven oma’s kroeg. Hun moeder is overleden en hun vader zit in de gevangenis. Betty wordt gek van het eiland, wordt gek van hun strenge oma en besluit om met Halloween naar een ander eiland te gaan, samen met haar zusje Charlie. Maar ze worden op de boot ontdekt door hun oma, maar hoe wist zij dit en waar komt zij opeens vandaan? Terug thuis vertelt oma hen over de eeuwenoude vloek die rust op hun familie en het is nog niemand gelukt om de vloek op te heffen. De zusjes erven elk een magisch voorwerp. Betty laat het er niet bij zitten en zet alles op alles om de vloek op te heffen. Samen met haar zusjes gaat ze op onderzoek uit en bedenken ze plannen om de vloek op te heffen. Hiermee komen ze alleen in nog groter gevaar!
Betty is een avontuurlijk meisje van twaalf jaar, ze wil weg van het eiland waar ze nu al haar hele leven op woont. Ze is het zat om telkens door oma in de gaten gehouden te worden. Haar oudere zus Flis komt meer over als een verstandige meid, meer al een puber van zestien die overal klaar mee is. En dan is er nog Charlie, de jongste van zes. Charlie is lief, naïef, maar ook intelligent. De combinatie van deze drie personages zorgen voor leuke scenes in het verhaal. Alle personages zijn goed uitgewerkt en met elk personage valt wel te identificeren.
Het verhaal is magisch, vol avontuur, lekker spannend, maar bevat ook mooie boodschappen. Daarnaast is er humor aanwezig in het verhaal. De drie zusjes zetten alles op alles om de vloek te verbreken en moeten verschillende hindernissen nemen. Van begin tot eind blijft het boek mysterieus. Naast de verhaallijn van de drie zusjes, is er ook nog een verhaallijn van een ander personage in het verleden. Hiermee is al begonnen in de proloog en maakt ontzettend nieuwsgierig.
Aan het eind van het boek vallen deze twee verhaallijnen mooi samen en vallen er meerdere puzzelstukjes op zijn plaats. Toch blijven er ook nog puzzelstukjes zoek en hopelijk worden deze vragen beantwoordt in het volgende deel. Dit boek is namelijk deel 1 van een driedelige serie. De vlotte schrijfstijl, het mysterieuze verhaal en de personages doen allemaal naar de volgende delen verlangen! Dit boek is zeker een aanrader om te lezen! Erg van genoten!
