The book started off really strong but, as I went on reading, it lost me a bit. Maybe it's because we are firmly into the main character's headspace and I felt like it became a bit repetitive. Also, the final section 

with the police investigation and Gilda's questioning and brief detention

felt to me a bit over-the-top, it went on and on and then was solved in the blink of an eye. The ending itself wasn't so bad 

I admit that I teared up a bit when Gilda's left those voicemail messages

but it was still quite abrupt and an awful lot was left unaddressed. 

I appreciated the hard-hitting representation of mental illness, just make sure to check the content warnings and look after your own mental well-being.  
I also quite liked the humour and, as a raised-Catholic-turned-atheist, I cackled many times whenever Gilda pondered over bizarre Catholic rituals.

I flew through this book, it was darkly funny, and somehow also endearing. The title hooked me, and this is a book I will definitely be thinking about. It was strangely enjoyable. 

**major trigger warnings for depression and anxiety so please look at them before reading. This is a book that you need to be in the right headspace for.

This was a really fast read for me and I found the main character very relatable.
Only massive downside is that the ending felt very abrupt and I didn't like the way

Gilda was suddenly alright, without the readers being given any indication of how she got out of her bad state. Felt weird to me how a book that depicted mental health struggles so realistically just suddenly went "she is alright now and back with her gilfriend". I also would have loved to know more about her sibling and their relationship with each other

Okay I'm actually obsessed with this book. Wow.

I have anxiety and I related to Gilda a lot while reading it (though she struggles with it way more than I do, and I have a much easier time asking for help). I loved the way this was written, in genuinely every way that could be interpreted. I'm amazed by how relatable and funny this was while also being so dark and existential. I was so drawn in and cared so much about what was going to happen to everyone involved.

Honestly I have absolutely zero complaints about this book. I mean...I wish maybe we'd gotten a glimpse of Eli at the end to see what happened there? But I understand why the author may have wanted to leave some things open-ended, and I'm satisfied with what we did get to see at the end. I can't recommend this book enough.

This book had me laughing at 6am and wanting to sob about my dead guinea pigs and realising (once again) how cult-ish the Catholic Church is and it made me happy I went to therapy because my thoughts used to be just like Gildas and it made me want to hug my little brother and also thank the Eleanors of the world for existing. In love with Austin's writing style but I also need a more normal book after this because it feels like I'm living in this one.

If you’re fortunate and never dealt with crippling anxiety or depression, this book is like a brief overview of that experience for people who don’t have enough resources available. 

If you do have crippling anxiety or depression then this book will amplify it briefly, maybe too much. This story contained feelings that I’ve had for years, and it’s cathartic to read the words I’ve been experiencing myself. 

Gilda is a hard character to love as we see her mistreat herself and the people around her. At times I related to her completely and other points felt immense gratitude I had access to support and never reached her level. 

There is a resolution to Gilda’s story but it felt rushed. The pacing of the end of the book is why it’s not a 5* read for me.

A couple hundred pages of Gilda’s descent into depression and then some bits at the end to turn everything around. It was sudden and jarring, though I’m happy for the characters and overall enjoyed the book!
