i picked this up at random while i was frantically scrolling through everand (i am a girl who can't do any chores without listening to an audiobook). i had no expectations because i've never heard of this book before, but i surprisingly liked it. its unpredictability was also interesting to me. after the first act, i thought the narrative was going to shift to a cozy apothecary slice of life (i don't know how else to describe it but you get me i hope). but i didn't expect it to go the court intrigue route.
suffice to say, this was a very entertaining book. it's hard to put down, which is why i read it in basically one sitting. don't regret reading this at all and would recommend it to people who love entertaining historical fiction with badass witches.

I usually don't read a lot of historical fiction, but I might after this book! I really enjoyed the whole vibe, it really makes you want to snuggle up under a thick blanket with a cup of tea. I found the characters very lovable (especially Rufus!) and I loved how the author intertwined magic with the history of Tudor England.

Dnf'd this @ 45% after wasting nearly 4 hours of my life listening to this MESS. So many issues with this, but the writing is the biggest. The book is set in like 1500's but the author's writing style and the things the characters say and think are giving 2000's. Just awful.

i really really liked this book. i loved how the author weaved in magic with true history. i really liked the whole aspect of witchcraft and the magic women practiced all those years ago. i also really enjoyed the court/ england setting. i feel like it really added to the story. a very pleasant surprise.
