It seems impertinent to even suggest my thoughts on this book. It is a masterwork.

sethe is everything evil and divine within femininity, and the worse part is every single act of abject horror comes from deep, intense, destabilizing, soul-smothering love and maternal goodwill

While the prose and story was over my head, and this could likely lead to lack of enjoyment, I did still enjoy the book. The writing was very good. I do want to read it again. And when I finished I did go straight back to the start and read the first few dozen pages again. Was really good again. You wouldn't think reading something again so quickly would be interesting, but now that I know the characters and the different timelines the story became so much clearer and even in that short bit I found parts of the narrative I missed the first time. I will read it again, which most books, I would not. But this is one that you should take some time to study.

I should go back and adjust all of my previous ratings but I won’t.

There is a "me" before Beloved; there is a "me" after Beloved. Morrison's powerful network of spinning narratives swept me in and flung me out a changed person. I am still--and ever will be--processing this book.
