I finished this in a day, and I highly recommend it to anyone who classifies themselves as religious and/or spiritual. Braestrup tells her own story of becoming a minister following her husband's death in a car accident. It was his dream to become a minister, and she continued it following his passing. Her portrayal of faith is open and honest, and reveals a woman who has had to endure some of the worst emotional pain possible in losing her husband, and yet remains ever committed to God's plan for us to love one another. Read this on a quiet, rainy afternoon you have to yourself.

Beautiful, real, heartbreaking, and heartwarming.

Love, Love this book and all her stuff. I found Kate Braestrup on The Moth podcast and felt moved to find out more about her and her work. I do not identify as religious or even "spiritual", but I appreciate her point of view and she is so sincere and eloquent. Please read this!

Would recommend: Yes

I really liked this book. The theology is a little ehhh, but the story is incredibly touching. I only sobbed during 2 commutes, which is some kind of feat of strength. Between the death of her husband, perilous rescues by the game wardens, and family conversations, it was pretty heavy at times. But don't let that turn you off. This book is definitely worth reading, so get on that.

Kate Braestrup is a chaplain for the Maine Game Warden Service. She didn't ever imagine that she'd be working in this capacity but her life took a giant turn the day her state trooper husband died in an automobile accident. Now she spends her day working with Search and Rescue comforting the family members who have been left behind. While revealing some of her on-the-job stories, Braestrup also discusses death and loss and some major philosophical questions.
I definitely recommend this as an audiobook but I suspect the written book is just as enjoyable.

I purchased this book after hearing the author speak on The Moth podcast. The story she told was so moving that I had to pull the car in to a layby to sob like a big ole baby.

This book is equally as tender, kind and as full of love. I am not remotely religious so was slightly nervous about the religious undertones of the book - but Kate's faith is so open, true and steeped in love it really didn't matter. And if anything added something extra to her lovely story. Even an atheist like me loved it.

An incredible woman with an authentic voice. Highly recommended.

This book is amazing- I liked the down to earth look at the role of religion in everyday life. Good writing, makes for an easy read though heartstring tugging in places.
