This was a disappointing sequel.

I liked the characters, but I couldn’t stand the plot and some of the character writing annoyed me. Honestly, I wanted to DNF around the 70% mark but I was so close to end and I wanted to see if it would change my feelings. I won’t be continuing the series.

Torn between 2.5 stars and 3 stars.

Not as good as #1 in the series, but still enough to keep me reading #3.
I think Roehrich does a great job of developing characters and a whole universe.
I did feel the pacing for this book was a little slow and dragged on a little bit between big deal events.
That being said, the mystery still has me hooked and I will probably have to finish the series to satisfy me.

I enjoyed the unfolding of the other side of Scarlett’s world (the fae side). Her emotional outbursts about this secret or that secret were exhausting.
I did enjoy the revealing of other character’s motives and how some characters you thought of as the opponent were revealed to be allies.

The second book in the series didn't feel quite as predictable as the first and the plot is thickening.

We meet lots of new characters in the fae lands (which I can't be expected to remember at this point, so I hope they're not THAT important

I loved everything about this. The writing, the banter, the quotes, and the rep of trauma was handled beautifully. My literal only complaint was Callan as a character because he is insufferable and needs to be yeeted not only out of Scarlett's life but out of the book as a whole. Other than that I found that I have no complaints. And that ending?! I am starting book 3 immediately.
